With Thanksgiving a week away, Spider Voices asked several Richmond student-athletes what they were thankful for this year. First up, cross country and track’s Peyton McGovern and swimming and diving’s Lexie Gilbert.
“I am thankful for my parents and all the sacrifices they make for my brother and I. I am especially grateful that they were able to make the trip down from Massachusetts to surprise me at my A-10 Championship race. I know it was difficult for them to coordinate the trip with their work schedules, but they made sure to be there for me and I’m so grateful for that. They’ve always thought me that family comes first and they are the embodiment of that value system.” – Peyton McGovern, freshman, Cross Country and Track
“I am so incredibly thankful to be a part of such an amazing program. The Richmond Spiders Swim and Dive team consists of such a special group of smart, hard working and driven women. I am so lucky I get the chance to train besides these girls day in and day out. The picture attached is our entire team and alumni participating in the Richmond Walk for Breast Cancer walk in October. Our team was named Becky’s Breast Friends in honor of one of our teammates mother who passed away earlier this year to a long battle of breast cancer.” – Lexie Gilbert, freshman, Swimming & Diving
